Instead, a state Superior Court panel rejected Eric Piper’s claims that he was the subject of an illegal search by police and that statements by his wife were improperly used against him during his Cumberland County trial nearly two years ago. Police said Piper, who was a civilian officer with the Defense Logistics Agency police at New Cumberland Army Depot at the time, broke into the victim’s Carlisle-area home in January 2018, beat the 29-year-old man repeatedly with the hammer and kicked him in his jaw and ribs. ....
Cumberland County man’s appeal of jail term in 30-year-old child-sex case denied by Pa. court Updated Jan 26, 2021; A Cumberland County man convicted in a 30-year-old child-sex case has failed to convince a state appeals court panel that he shouldn’t have been sentenced to prison as an adult for crimes he committed when he was a child. The Superior Court decision means Herman Armolt Jr, now 43, must keep serving a 4- to 8-year jail term a county judge imposed a year ago after a jury convicted the Shippensburg-area man of charges including aggravated indecent assault. Investigators arrested Armolt in 2018 after the victim in the case told them he had molested her between 1990 and 1994. Armolt would have been 12 years old when that abuse began. ....
