New COVID-19 outbreaks are emerging within industry and local businesses. 
As of May 12, Alberta Health reported new outbreaks at the Suncor refinery and A and D Childcare Centre in Sherwood Park, as well as three outbreaks at Inter Pipeline Ltd.’s (ILP) Heartland Petrochemical Complex in northern Strathcona County.

Coronavirus: Growing calls to prioritize daycare staff, early childhood educators for COVID-19 vaccines

There are growing calls for child care staff and educators to be prioritized higher in the queue for COVID-19 vaccines, as daycares remain open as an essential service.
Ontario, where schools are currently closed to in-person learning amid a surge in COVID-19 cases, is currently in Phase 2 of vaccine rollout, which includes teachers, early childhood educators (ECEs) and daycare workers, but immediate eligibility is not universal.
ECEs and daycare workers aged 55 and older are eligible for the AstraZeneca vaccine, and those aged 60 and older are eligible for the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines.
Those aged 18 and up living in one of Ontario’s “hot spot” postal codes are also eligible for vaccination. ....

Why some seniors in long-term care haven't been vaccinated, despite 'milestone' announcement


 
EDMONTON
Premier Jason Kenney’s announcement that Alberta has reached a vaccine “milestone” is creating some confusion amongst private seniors home operators.
Kenney said Monday that the first dose of vaccination against COVID-19 had now been administered in all 357 long-term care and designated supportive living facilities in the province, a feat he called a ‘tremendous milestone’.
“I believe (this) makes Alberta the first province in the country to complete the first dose vaccine rollout for this important and highly vulnerable population,” said Kenney.
However, operators of private long-term care homes said they are frustrated by the language being used. ....
