Plan ahead: Events coming up in the Capital Region FacebookTwitterEmail Wish Fest to benefit Make-A-Wish Northeast New York  AMSTERDAM – Local recording artists Madison VanDenburg of “American Idol” fame and David J will be among the performers at the fourth installment of St. Mary’s Hospital Presents Wish Fest on Saturday, July 10 at Riverlink Park, 2 Front St. There will be food, drink, attractions for all ages, performances by Rock Junkies and the X-Squad Water Ski Show Team and a fireworks show. The community music festival will benefit Make-A-Wish Northeast New York to help fulfill wishes for children with critical illnesses.  For more information or to donate, go to wishfestneny.org.

Victory at Yorktown; ratification of the Constitution; George Washington’s death; the British invasion of Washington, D.C.; election of Andrew Jackson; outbreak of the Civil War; assassination of Lincoln when and how did 18th- and 19th-century Guilderland residents learn of these events? Even though Albany was just a few miles away, Guilderland’s 18th-Century residents were quite isolated. As anti-British agitation increased during the 1770s, there were discussions pro and con after church services and at local taverns.
