Macon Violence Prevention forum addresses bar and club owners After seeing a growing number of homicides, Macon-Bibb leaders are turning to the community for solutions. August 2, 2021 MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon-Bibb leaders,  including Commissioners Virgil Watkins, Paul Bronson and Al Tillman, met with bar and club owners at Niche 385 Monday night to address nightlife safety during a Macon Violence Prevention (MVP) forum. Several people have been killed due to club violence in the last year, and county administrators want your help to help solve the issue. “I haven’t met anyone yet who is pro gun violence, so we’re all looking for solutions,” District 8 Commissioner Watkins said.

That s thanks to Bibb County commissioners who voted 6 to 2 to approve using American Rescue Plan money to fund the vaccine incentive. Tuesday night s vote means a full-time employee who is already fully-vaccinated or gets vaccinated by the end of September will get $500. Part-time employees will get $250.

The forum, which took place in Macon-Bibb’s District 9 as part of a series of events under Mayor Lester Miller’s Macon Violence Prevention (MVP) initiative, was held at the Macon Mall. Miller, District 9 Commissioner Al Tillman, District 8 Commissioner Virgil Watkins and Bibb County Sheriff David Davis were among those in attendance.

Brookdale Water Challenge brings in more than 1,200 cases of water The Macon-Bibb community donated more than 1,200 cases of water to the Brookdale Warming Center. July 13, 2021 MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) The Macon-Bibb community donated more than 1,200 cases of water to the Brookdale Warming Center Tuesday. Macon-Bibb Commissioner Al Tillman and Mayor Pro Tem Seth Clark started the Brookdale Water Challenge, asking people to take cases of water to the center and promising to match every case donated. Commissioner Tillman says the challenge is about providing resources. “People bring a lot of toiletries and different items, but today is a day for a water challenge,” Commissioner Tillman said. “And so this is huge. This is amazing, I’m just so excited about it.”

Bibb County keeping Brookdale center guests hydrated

Updated: 11:21 PM EDT July 13, 2021 MACON, Ga. During these hot Central Georgia summers, everybody needs to hydrate, including the folks staying at Macon-Bibb s Brookdale Warming Center. County commissioners recently challenged people to donate water to the homeless shelter. Mayor Pro tem Seth Clark and Commissioner Al Tillman said they would match every water bottle donated to the center.  Clark says the shelter has already helped hundreds of people. That s 600 lives that this county has touched, 600 lives that our staff and volunteers have touched and saved, and we have to remember why this started. It started because two poor souls were lost on Christmas Day due to inclement weather, said Clark.
