County commissioners recently challenged people to donate water to the homeless shelter.
Mayor Pro tem Seth Clark and Commissioner Al Tillman said they would match every water bottle donated to the center.
Clark says the shelter has already helped hundreds of people.
That s 600 lives that this county has touched, 600 lives that our staff and volunteers have touched and saved, and we have to remember why this started. It started because two poor souls were lost on Christmas Day due to inclement weather, said Clark.
Family of slain nursing student awards scholarship in honor of graduation she didn’t live to see

The family of a young woman killed in Birmingham marked what would have been her nursing school Graduation Day by honoring another student.
Destiny Washington, 20, was shot to death Thursday, Dec. 17, 2020 in the parking lot of the student center at University Boulevard and 14th Street South.
Her parents, Randy and Tora Washington, on Friday presented a $500 scholarship to a Tarrant High School student who also plans to study nursing at Lawson State. The award was given to Madison Rodgers at the school’s Awards Day ceremony held Friday evening.
Roberts faced just one charge: that between November 29-30, 2014, he murdered Karlos Stephens.
Stuff also revealed in the wake of Roberts’ conviction for manslaughter that he was deemed a “safe person” by a social worker, despite them being aware of an indecent assault conviction and the previous uplift of his own three children.

Shane Claude Roberts will spend the next six years behind bars for the 2014 manslaughter of a baby. On the opening day of the trial, Crown Prosecutor Anna McConachy told the jury of six men and six women that Karlos and his twin brother had been entrusted into the care of Roberts and his family as their mother, Pamela Stephens, was struggling to cope.

Fathers Among Men, an organization in Macon, is holding a 28 Days to Impact program to help the community and teach young men some valuable lessons.
Parker Sanvs is a volunteer and says the program has been great for him. Show me how to build stuff, showed me how to help, Sanvs said.
Phoenix Blackwell is another volunteer, and he says he loves the program. I m very elated, like I love to help. Ever since I was little, I would help people just because Blackwell said. You can come for any type of guidance that you might need, you know, whether that be mental, whether that be financial, whether that be just how to use a certain type of tool. We always have a cookout after we do something, like this, it s kinda a reward for helping.
