starting to now settle in. if i was the president, the last thing i would be doing is underestimating support against him. it s always to it s always the best sort of plan to expect an underwhelming turnout and so that you can motivate your voters to show up. i think what happened in kentucky, i just got back from there. i think it was more about bevin. he was very unpopular for a number of reasons. people thought of him as a carpet bagger. not from the state. wasn t really in tune with the culture. and in state elections, those things matter. but then if you look down ballot at the ag race and secretary of state race and the agriculture race, republicans had great turnout, great wins. so i really think it was about being a bad candidate. okay, so i hear you. he certainly infuriated the teachers in the state and rolled
big counties. could there still be surprises left? reporter: well, you can never rule out any surprises here in florida, but at least half of the counties here in the state have finished their manual recount in the senate race as that noon deadline tomorrow is approaching. as of last night. 35 out of 67 counties here had finished their hand recounts in the race between senator bill nelson and republican governor rick scott. but there are still some counties that have a little bit more work to do on down ballot races including broward county and palm beach county where they finished the recount in the senate race but have to get to the agriculture race. they will continue with the recounts at 8:00 a.m. as well as potentially announcing the numbers in that senate race recount where they had to count
this just in from secretary of state, it is official, second set of returns says two hand recounts are ordered for the u.s. senate race and senate agriculture race. statewide. statewide. at what point do you say 12,000, that s a big number. at what point is it appropriate to say you know what, i can t, the numbers aren t there. i don t know the recount. yank i can t think of a recount with that many votes. at this point, how would you handle this? at the point that every vote lawfully cast is counted, and look, we have some pretty significant ptsd from 18 years ago in 2000 when we had a president that was selected by the u.s. supreme court, then by the voters of florida, had we had a real recount, a full and thorough recount, we probably would have had a different outcome. i know i have been an elected official since then and i know i was committed through all those
the history. it s deeply concerning that they are not following the law. we have every legal vote that was cast in a timely fashion to vote. and here s one more vote, what will happen after the machine recount is any race in the state that was less than a quarter of one point which will be the senate race and the agriculture race, and that will be over votes and under votes. the canvassing board, if the accounting teams don t do it, i have to down and determine if the voter did or not. the mark here and cross here and circle here was voter intent. the statute is pretty clear, but that doesn t mean anyone is going to follow it or or that they are going to follow it. it s important that they had scrutiny and transparency and watch it every step of the way.
to be disgusted by this process but there is zero evidence of fraud. shannon: more about incompetence that it is about willful misconduct? somebody who lives in broward county for a very long time, it has been through the process since 2000 and beyond, it s totally embarrassing to anybody who lives here in broward that somehow we are always the focus of attention. but again, i want to make sure your viewers understand the recount that we are going through is a machine recount that is statutory as compared to what it was in 2000. this is a statutory mandate, anything under .5% needs to go through a machine recount and then the reports come thursday and then the states, if there s any other races, probably the senate race in the agriculture race that will be under .25 will have to have a manual recount which basically looks at all of the over votes where people voted twice in the same race in the under votes where they didn t vote at all in that race. that s what s happening.
