President János Áder addressed the Friends of Hungary Foundation in a video message, telling members that we should embrace our new lives and grow from the challenge the pandemic has given us. The Hungarian president started his speech by quoting Pope Francis’ statement that a person comes out of a crisis changed, either for better or for worse. Áder suggests that it is better to prepare for a changed, better life together after the pandemic, than to want our old lives back. Áder noted that this was the second year in a row that it was not possible for him to personally meet the members of the Friends of Hungary community. The day-to-day changes of the pandemic have taught us to become adaptable in order to overcome greater problems, he said, adding that many have complained about the virus still being an issue in 2021, having to cancel events, modify plans, postpone travel, and rethink opportunities. ....
Hungary’s divisions must be healed and a gentle revolution is needed, Budapest Mayor Gergely Karácsony said in a video message marking the March 15 national holiday on Facebook on Monday. “To do this, we need to close the chapter on the past thirty, including the last ten years,” the mayor said. Hungary has become two separate countries because it has been systematically torn into two, Karácsony said. “We can see, hear and feel it on our skin.” This was done using the old method: “divide and conquer, incite half the people against the other half, for it is always easier to find enemies than solutions,” he said. ....
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has greeted Hungarians around the world on the occasion of Hungary’s national holiday marking the outbreak of the 1848 revolution, the PM’s press chief said on Monday. In a letter to Hungarians, Orbán said the revolution sends the message that “the power to improve our lives is always in the hands of those who are able, willing and courageous enough to lift up the Hungarian nation.” “It is with this faith and courage that we must pull through once again, as we face a renewed wave of attack by an invisible enemy,” the prime minister said. ....
