Far-famed Osogbo-based Ifa priest, Chief Ifayemi Elebuibon, on Tuesday, demanded recognition for African Traditional Religion, saying such official recognition from the government has been long overdue.
The Chief Magistrate Court of Kwara State has adjourned the hearing of a case filed against Adegbola Abdulazeez, an Isese (traditional religion) practitioner and activist, also known as Tani Olohun to January 30, 2024. The Isese practitioner was remanded in prison last year for trumped-up charge of planning to start a war in the city by "inviting other traditional and idol worshippers to assemble in Ilorin on the 20th of August, 2023.”
A new charge has been brought against Adegbola Abdulazeez, an Isese (indigenous religion) practitioner and activist, also known as Tani Olohun, in which it was alleged that he burnt the Quran, the holy book of the Muslims. According to BBC Yoruba, the new charge was brought before a Magistrate court in Ilorin, Kwara State capital by a lecturer at the University of Ilorin and a famous Islamic cleric, Professor Ali Agan.
The Kwara State judiciary through the Honourable Chief Judge has constituted a committee to investigate the alleged abuse of processes perpetrated by some lower courts in the state. This was contained in a letter written from the office of Deputy Registrar, Litigation Section signed by Jibril Bio Salihu (Secretary to the committee) addressed to the Chairman of Nigerian Bar Association, Ilorin Branch. According to the letter, some Area Courts and Magistrates in the state have been alleged of illegally issuing Direct Criminal Complaints.
