The Kwara State judiciary through the Honourable Chief Judge has constituted a committee to investigate the alleged abuse of processes perpetrated by some lower courts in the state. This was contained in a letter written from the office of Deputy Registrar, Litigation Section signed by Jibril Bio Salihu (Secretary to the committee) addressed to the Chairman of Nigerian Bar Association, Ilorin Branch. According to the letter, some Area Courts and Magistrates in the state have been alleged of illegally issuing Direct Criminal Complaints.
Popular Kwara State-based Islamic cleric, Labeeb Lagbaji has claimed that Adegbola Abdulazeez, an Isese (indigenous religion) practitioner and activist, also known as Tani Olohun was brought to court on Tuesday for new criminal charges due to a request made by the sitting judge. The cleric was heard explaining this in a video posted on social media and seen by SaharaReporters, stating that he had personally forgiven Tani Olohun and he was not ready to pursue any charges against him.

In a document made available to SaharaReporters on Wednesday morning by one of Tani Olohun’s lawyers, Adedamola Solesi, the detained traditional worshipper was slammed with three fresh defamation charges by another Islamic Cleric, Alfa Labeeb Lagbaji in another Kwara Magistrates Court sitting in Ilorin, the state capital.
The counsel to Adegbola Abdulazeez, an Isese (indigenous religion) practitioner and activist, also known as Tani Olohun, Adedamola Solesi has described the new criminal charges brought against his client as a breach of court process. Adedamola mentioned this to SaharaReporters, while reacting to the three fresh defamation charges slammed on his client by another Islamic Cleric, Alfa Labeeb Lagbaji in another Kwara Magistrates Court sitting in Ilorin, the state capital.
Adegbola Abdulazeez, an Isese (indigenous religion) practitioner and activist, also known as Tani Olohun has tendered an apology to Muslims, Islamic clerics and the sons and daughters of Ilorin Emirate for his actions. The letter of apology obtained by SaharaReporters was written on Tani Olohun’s behalf by one of his lawyers, Muftau Olufela Olobi.
