into the room in a very big panic telling all the students 20-plus, to come into a teacher s room in the back and hide and duck down. reporter: the wounded were transported to one area hospital for treatment. federal officials indicate the gunman, a 20-year-old male, died at the scene. the active shooter was engaged by law enforcement, and later confirmed to be deceased. reporter: president obama expressed his outrage at the latest mass shooting. each time we see one of these mass shootings, our thoughts and prayers are not enough. it does not capture the heart ache and grief and anger that we should feel, and it does nothing to prevent this carnage from being inflicted someplace else in america. reporter: the students were only four days into the fall session at the college when today s shooting took place. now, it s not known if the shooter was a student at the community college. officials say the shooter died while exchanging gunfire with police. umpqua community
