Alreadl right, kim, thank yo teach your kids to code, the way of the future. How about if you dont know how to code, yourself . A second grader may be able to help you with that dilemma. The game she and her parents have created. A second grader, garvin . A second grader. A board game that teaches you something is not a new concept. How many kids learn something about real estate from monopoly or spelling from scrabble . Its an old trick that she says can still be used to learn new things. I want to go first. Reporter being accused of plays by your own set of rules is almost never a compliment. This 8yearold, though, she cant help it. Around the family game table, they are her rules because, you see, she invented the game. It makes me really happy because people really like my game. Reporter its called coder bunnies and she, her mother, and father, have spent the better part of a year creating it. Going through who knows how many prototypes until finding one they think people will like. She came up with the concept while thinking how she could combine her favorite things. An attempt to teach them the basics. Youre not going to write a computer code after playing the game but may understand the logic behind it and how the coding works. I just made you feel worse, didnt i . Can i borrow it. Thank you, garvin. So whats right with our community . Garvin wants to know. Log on to our website, nbcbayarea. Com and scroll down to the bay area proud section. Let us know your story ideas. Lets head things over to the other scientist we have around here, jeff is going to talk to us about meteorology, Something Else i donts up. Were tracking strong storms right now throughout the east bay, you guys. See this bowling ball of shorts, thunderstorm rolling toward interstate 580, also the 205. Anyone heading in this direction toward the pass, also tracy, really should be watching out for this thunderstorm over the next 30 to 45 minutes. Heres the main reason why. Not only heavy rainfall, but weve detected at least three different lightning strikes and hail that is at least a half inch in diameter. This could, again, reach tracy by 5 36. As you can see on our storm tracker, right here. As we zoom in and get a closer look, again, its all about the interstate 580 and also the 205 corridor. Back into this tracy triangle. That likely will get hit the hardest from this storm system. Besides that, there really isnt anything else left on the radar in terms of rainfall. You can see across the Sky Camera Network right now, we have the blue sky. 75 across the south bay. East bay checking in at 79. Back toward San Francisco, a cool breeze at 65. North bay at 74. So tomorrow morning by all accounts well start off with mainly clear weather. So a lot more comfortable than the past two days to begin. And temperatures will also be on the cooler side with as low as 53 in the north bay. East bay, 59. The south bay at 58. So once again, the storm weve been tracking is now at least the center of it moving off toward the east and that will leave us with a nicer weather pattern throughout fridays forecast. As youre going to see, besides a little bit of fog in the Morning Hours well have sunnier skies by the afternoon. Once we hit this weekend, were going to see things mix up for us. Saturday looks like the better day of the weekend. Sunny skies. Great weather coming our way. But then as we head throughout sunday, were going to track a storm system off to the north thats going to move down across the bay area. Cool ore temperatures off and bring us a slight chance of showers. Again, that is on sunday. So lets take you to the microclimate forecast as we head throughout friday. See those sunny skies expected in san jose. 8 3 degrees for the peninsula. 68 in pacifica. Back to palo alto, 80. In San Francisco, a round of 60s. Lets bring you to the north bay, east bay and also the tri valley. Sunny skies all around. Warming up into the 80s for the tri valley. But we should stay out of that 90degree territory here for livermore, pleasanton, also for danville. So lets go ahead and get a look at that weekend forecast. Again, warmer weather generally here friday and saturday then cooler and that shower chance once we hit sundays forecast. We could actually lower it to 76 degrees by sunday in the south bay. Raj and jess . Okay, thank you, jeff. Just ahead, tree trouble along the peninsula. The trouble thats threatening to change the landscape. Warriors head coach steve kerr is leaving the team. Temporarily. Well explain why. Jamie wanted a taste of the real new orleans and we just couldnt say no to that face. Then we wanted more of that local flavor so betty says. Oh yeah, thats betty. Youre going to want to do this alligator thing. And betty didnt lead us wrong. A little later we passed some dancing. And who doesnt like dancing . Especially when its followed by fireworks everyones nola is different. Follow yours. Of attention in half one of the great parts of living near the coast, we get to see this. Some new video of a family of frolicking whales. Drawing a lot of attention at Half Moon Bay tonight. Take a look. Our nbc chopper overhead spotted what appears to be a baby and mother. Just about 90 minutes ago. The whiles surface frequently as you can see. In and out of the water. Word spread quickly. Beautiful to see that. Lot of oohs and ahhs from the people along the beach and the surfers in the water. This is all happening probably right now still near miramar beach. The conservation message may be sinking in. A new report shows californians have exceeded the key watersaving benchmark for the third month in a row. Overall californians use nearly 27 less water in august compared to the same period two years ago. The drought is also now being blamed for tree deaths on the peninsula. Trees are dying there at alarming rate. Palo alto removed 400 of them in just the last year. Nearly twice the number the city usually removes. The city is now urging residents to let their lawns die but keep watering their trees. The city is expanding its own watering service sending out more trucks to water trees in the greatest need. How about this one . The warriors have a new head coach temporarily. Head coach steve kerr is out. A leave of absence is what its called. A week after his 50th birthday coach kerr is out with a bad back. A lot of us can relate. Kerr had back surgery in july and had a followup surgery last month. Its unknown how long hell be out. The meantime, assistant coach walton will take over as the interim head coach. The warriors, by the way, tip off the preseason next monday night in san jose. Well, if he has to be off, this is a good time. This is a good time. Very good timing. Were back in a moment. Great change comes from doing the right thing. Like the radical idea that health isnt an industry. Its a cause. So we do things differently. We combine care and coverage. And believe prevention is the most powerful of cures. So forgive us for not going with the flow. We just think the flow should go with us. Which makes us rebels with one cause. Your health. [get up to 48 monthsw interestfree financing on tempurpedic.
