KABUL, May 12 (Xinhua) Taliban militants fighting the Afghan government s security forces have overrun a key district in Wardak province, 35 km west of the national capital Kabul, local media reported Wednesday citing the provincial governor.
The Taliban captured Nirkh district of Wardak province following a collusion on Tuesday. The security forces made a tactical retreat from the district, in the west of provincial capital Maidan Shar, Ariana News TV quoted provincial governor Abdul Rahman Tariq as saying.
Local villagers told local media that at least 30 security forces members surrendered to the militants after heavy clashes in Nirkh on Tuesday as they did not receive reinforcement. ....

The Taliban have taken control of a district near the Afghan capital, Kabul, a day before a three-day ceasefire is due to begin.
The militants confirmed on Tuesday that they had captured Nerkh district in Wardak province in a surprise attack .
Nerkh is the second district in a week to fall to the Taliban.
Afghanistan is seeing increasing violence as the US and Nato prepare to pull out remaining troops by 11 September.

Following reports about the fall of Nerkh district of Maidan Wardak province to the Taliban, Afghan security officials said that the security forces made a tactical retreat from the district.
Maidan Wardak s governor said that the security forces retreated from the district as part of a conspiracy, without further elaborating. He said the district is currently under Taliban control.
However, the Afghan Ministry of Defense (MoD) has rejected any kind of conspiracy and said that reinforcements have been sent to recapture the district from the Taliban.
“Regrettably, the Taliban took over the district last night because of a conspiracy, the security forces then made a tactical retreat, the district building has sustained damages,” said Abdul Rahman Tariq, the governor of Maidan Wardak. ....
