West Branch plans in-person graduation | News, Sports, Jobs


BELOIT – West Branch is set to have an in-person graduation ceremony.
Acting Superintendent Micki Egli reported this week the district intends to hold the graduation ceremony June 6 at the high school, based on current social gathering restrictions regarding the Covid-19 pandemic. She said depending on weather there will either be an outdoor ceremony at the stadium or three separate ceremonies indoors.
Egli noted the plans could change if restrictions on social gatherings are eased or tightened.
Additionally, Egli said the district plans to hold a prom in some form May 1, although she is not 100 percent clear what it will look like. ....

BELOIT West Branch students will continue to start school after Labor Day next year.
The school board Wednesday night approved the 2021-2022 school calendar that includes the first day for students Sept. 8, last day June 2 and graduation May 29.
The board also considered a calendar that included the first day for students Aug. 31, with no school Sept. 3 and Labor Day, last day May 26 and graduation May 22.
Community members in the past have pushed for a student start date to remain the traditional Wednesday after Labor Day, allowing students to participate in the Canfield Fair without missing school. Past boards have been split on the decision, however following the wishes of the community over recommendations of a faculty committee. ....

WB super transitioning to teaching role | News, Sports, Jobs

BELOIT – The West Branch schools superintendent will transition to a teaching position when he returns from sick leave.
The school board Wednesday night approved Timothy Saxton to remain on sick leave through July 31 and acting Superintendent Micki Egli to continue as superintendent pro tempore during that time. Saxton has been on sick leave since August and Egli has been filling in for him.
Saxton has requested to be transitioned to a teaching position upon his return. The board will be considering options as they plan for the leadership change this summer.
“We wish Mr. Saxton the best for a full recovery,” said Egli in a written statement. “We look forward to seeing him again in the classroom this fall and will keep our community updated on the process of the plan for leadership moving forward.” ....
