Police officers attempted to rescue victim but smoke was too thick

COLONIE An 85-year-old woman died in a fire on Colleen Drive Saturday night.
Colonie police said two people returned home around 5:51 p.m. to find the upstairs of their house on fire. Patrol officers Aaron Hanley and Amanda Paris, who were first on scene, attempted to enter the house after learning a resident was still inside, but were driven back by smoke and heat.

COLONIE – A Colonie woman died in a weekend house fire, police said.
Mary Ann Zito, 85, a resident of the house at 10 Colleen Drive, was pulled from the residence by arriving firefighters, but could not be revived.
The fire was called in just before 6 p.m. Saturday. Two residents arrived home to find a fire in the upstairs of the home, police said.
Responding Colonie police officers Aaron Hanley and Amanda Paris arrived to find the house full of smoke and they quickly learned another resident was still inside. The officers made several attempts to rescue the woman, but were unsuccessful due to the smoke and heat, police said.
