A Greater Dandenong Council internal review has given the all-clear to a controversial 116-townhouse estate being built just a metre from a busy road corner in Keysborough.
Public uproar had erupted over the Keysborough Townhouses project in a mixed-use zone at 452 Cheltenham Road.
There appears no room for a footpath along the access road to the HomeCo shopping centre, child-care centre and Cheltenham Road.
The estate’s corner property Lot 1 stands just a metre from the kerb.
Residents also fear that a shortage of onsite parking will cause overflow into the HomeCo.
However a review by Greater Dandenong’s building and planning teams found the project was compliant. ....

Police re-open 'slug' case | Dandenong Star Journal

Victoria Police has re-opened its investigation of allegations of a corrupt compulsory shutdown of Dandenong South-based caterer I Cook Foods.
ICF has claimed its 30-year-old business was improperly closed as part of a health department investigation into a hospital patient’s death in early 2019.
The two-year public stoush has been branded ‘slug-gate’, including an allegation that a council food inspector planted a live slug on the factory floor.
It has led to a Parliamentary inquiry, and the launch of a $50 million civil lawsuit by ICF against the Department of Health and Greater Dandenong Council.
As a result of the shutdown, the business was destroyed and 41 employees lost their jobs, ICF claims. ....

Hub libary's $1m boost | Dandenong Star Journal


The future Keysborough South Community Hub’s library lounge has won a $1 million state grant.
The $12.6 million hub, which is still under detailed design, will include a library space for reading, study, work and kids’ storytime.
A self-service library kiosk will be available to order items from the Dandenong libraries’ collection.
The $1 million grant comes from the $56.9 million Living Libraries Infrastructure Program in 2020-’21.
The hub has also been granted a $3 million education department grant towards early childhood education facilities.
Keysborough MP Martin Pakula said the library lounge would allow “more local people will be able to access everything our local libraries have to offer”. ....
