By Cam Lucadou-Wells A Greater Dandenong Council internal review has given the all-clear to a controversial 116-townhouse estate being built just a metre from a busy road corner in Keysborough. Public uproar had erupted over the Keysborough Townhouses project in a mixed-use zone at 452 Cheltenham Road. There appears no room for a footpath along the access road to the HomeCo shopping centre, child-care centre and Cheltenham Road. The estate’s corner property Lot 1 stands just a metre from the kerb. Residents also fear that a shortage of onsite parking will cause overflow into the HomeCo. However a review by Greater Dandenong’s building and planning teams found the project was compliant. ....
The house with the famous brick jug chimney in Noble Park is a source of much “folklore”. Now up for sale at an estimated price of up to $1.2 million, a local real estate describes the home as a “vintage bungalow” with an “interesting story” dating back to the 1930s. The property at the corner of Corrigan and Heatherton roads was initially built for dairy distribution with a U-shaped driveway for horses, according to Keysborough agent Area Specialist. But long-time Noble Park resident Geoff Wachter who worked for the home’s builder and first resident Peter Keith Jarvie, most commonly known as Mick, says it was built it as a “whimsical expression”. ....

The pile – one of multitudes in Greater Dandenong – has grown over several days on Queens Avenue opposite Buckingham Avenue. After being alerted on Monday 8 March, Greater Dandenong Council reported the mess to VicTrack, which owns the site adjoining the city-bound railway line. The eye-sore shocked councillor Richard Lim, who has publicly pledged to beautify Springvale as a tourist attraction. “It’s a very bad image for Springvale, and very widespread.” It’s one of many garbage mounds piled up on roadsides, nature strips, creeks and fields in suburbs and rural parts of Greater Dandenong found by Star Journal photographer Gary Sissons on 10 March. ....
