Law enforcement and in america that, in fact, he s going to condone lying. not just lying, perjury. james stewart, thanks so much for joining us. thank you. the mighty mississippi river continues to bring havoc and widespread flooding in mississippi causing one fatality and leaving residents to wonder what they will find when the water finally begins to recede. nbc s thanh truong has more from vicksburg. good afternoon to you. the mississippi river in vicksburg finally crested this morning at 7:00 local time. it crested at 57.1 feet, just a few inches short of the 57.5 feet originally forecasted. nevertheless, it does send a new record for flooding in this area. the previous record was set back in 1927. even though the river has stopped rising, that doesn t mean the disaster is over for the families that are affected. throughout the state of mississippi more than 4,000 people have evacuated. in vicksburg alone up to 1400 ....
Here in vicksburg with the levels of 57 and they hope to crest out thursday at at 57.5, but you can see that the whole community here, and there are hundreds of homes spread throughout this area. i am standing on rail road tracks not that you would know that, but home after home on this street, and the farther down the street, the deeper the water gets, and it is 11 feet here and 15 feet in the back street, and you have bizarre scenes. you know, you have the railroad crossing there sticking out of the water and the dead end sign and you would only know that you were at pittman and railroad by the signage there. and the locals say that when the army corps of engineers was here a couple of weeks ago trying to warn people about how deep the water would get and they drew a line on the street saying this is where it is going to go. you need to get out. well, that line, actually it was here. so they missed it by about six feet from shore there. so actually, even the army corps of engineers ....

Meet with flood victims and some of the state s first responders. meantime the mississippi river still on the rise and in vicksburg, the flood waters forcing more road closures, homes in the area, getting swamped. dang springer is live at the flood gates in downtown vicksburg. how high is the water in vicksburg today, dan tion and when is it expected to crest? reporter: jon, it s still rising slowly here, the number is 56.7 feet here in vicksburg, expected to crest at 57.5 on thursday. now, that number may not mean much to you but it s at an all time high, the record set in 1927, but this picture will tell you the story. look at this historic railroad station, under about 6 feet of water. as we pan to the left we can show you it is all hands on deck, a team of workers right now at this flood wall downtown, they brought it in a second pump, they really can t keep up with all the water gushing through. ....
