Image the area from where the ping came from and see, if they look for some sort of geometric wreckage, something that doesn t look natural, doesn t look like a rock, doesn t look like the ocean bottom or sand. they ll do that first. if they find interesting looking targets, they ll send something down to visually take a picture of it. this could take days to weeks, or longer even. yeah. officials say the pings that the u.s. navy detected thanks to that sophisticated towed pinger locator that it was near the 37.5 kilohertz which is the standard beacon frequency for those two black boxes. is there anything else that could make that kind of sound that could confuse those who are searching for the black boxes? well, i mean, the sound is very unique. it s going to be a 37 1/2 kilohertz pulse with a specific duration depending on the model of the pinger. if they say that s for one of these pingers, i d be surprised if it could be anything else. that s why they re cautiously ....

Beneath the pings, the pings are so exciting because they re the right frequency, 37.5, they re the right frequency of pinging noises, and the rate at which the ping comes is about once every second, and that s right. the ocean shield mentioned that it had heard not one but two, which would suggest there are two pingers, one on the flight data recorder, and one on the flight voice recorder. and they don t travel very far, means they were at some point right on top of or nearly on top of whatever was making this sound. so they have the coordinates, they know about where they were when they found it. it sounds like a pinger, the frequent looks like a pinger, most of us conclude it must be a pinger. that s why everybody is so optimistic, but it does no good ....

Explain. yes. your last commentator mentioned it. the devices that the chinese were using were devices that you would use perhaps for something which is roughly 400 meters or so beneath the surface and they are quite simple in the way that they are constructed. so the chinese were probably receiving a great deal of noise. the ocean creates a lot of noise and the 37.5 kilohertz signal could easily be lost in that and you could easily misinterpret that signal. the device used on the ocean shield are american devices made by the u.s. navy that is used specifically for deep ocean. this will be drawn along the ocean floor at 4 to 5 miles an hour, perhaps only 1,000 feet off the bottom of the floor. ....

Assumptions. still guesswork in there. a lot of guesswork. changes with heat, cool, warm. once you figure that out, you deal with the question what are the things we re hearing? let s listen to the sountd first so everyone knows what the sound is we re talking about. so very faint. you can hear that. that s displayed at a sound we can audibly hear. this is supposed to be at 37.5 kilohertz. keep in mind this sound may not be as strong. they may not be able to hear this sound. of course, a lot of things change sounds under the sea. most importantly, this sound under the water is emitted by a lot of equipment. it s not just the black boxes that emit the sound. we ve been talking to a lot of experts saying there s a lot of things the militaries use, the divers use that have this exact frequency at this exact same ....

Transmitting from a part of the aircraft. that s better than debris. debris, that doesn t mean there s a wreck. the wreck could be 1,000 miles away. the fact that it s a ping. everybody s talking about 37.5 kilohertz. kilohertz. does that mean something special to you? yes, it does because there s only one device that i know that emits that frequency and that s this emergency locater. now, if someone wants to mix that up with oceanographics and the song of the whale s call or the tortoise s mating call, they could give you thousands of them. but i m hopeful this is the sound coming out of that flight data recorder. my previous guest told me with this ping from a black box and they manufacture the pinger that it continuously pings and that it gets a little weaker in frequency as time goes on. they only heard this for 90 ....
