The salinity and the surface temperature. you might get a difference in temperature between a lower layer and an upper layer and a difference in salinity, in density. and this would affect the path of sound waves. and so the two ping signals could very well be coming from a signal source. and with all the errors adding up, they seem to be very far apart. but if you re going to look some place, this is sure a very good start. yeah. jeff, we are learning tonight that the pings detected by the ocean shield, as bill nye was just referencing, were actually at 33.3, where he said you may get a different temperature, right? a lower standard than the standard beacon frequency of 37.5 kilohertz. that s according to the pinger manufacturer. do you think this could still be the black boxes in your estimation, even at these different temperatures or different rates? there s a lot of problems with this pinger data. the 33.3 megahertz frequency, that s a big problem. ....

There s been storms in this part of the ocean, which will change the salinity and the surface temperature. you might get a difference in temperature between a lower layer and an upper layer and a difference in salinity, in density. and this would affect the path of sound waves. and so the two ping signals could very well be coming from a signal source. and with all the errors adding up, they seem to be very far apart. but if you re going to look some place, this is sure a very good start. yeah. jeff, we are learning tonight that the pings detected by the ocean shield, as bill nye was just referencing, were actually at 33.3, where he said you may get a different temperature, right? a lower standard than the standard beacon frequency of 37.5 kilohertz. that s according to the pinger manufacturer. do you think this could still be the black boxes in your estimation, even at these different temperatures or different rates? there s a lot of problems with this pinger data. ....

Signals. as i said no luck so far. this is really critical to this search effort. they are trying to narrow down this potential search field, and they need a third signal, they say, in order to be able to do that. row mary? erin, what are we to make of the fact that the signal detected by the u.s. pinger locater you not the standard beacon frequency and what are authorities saying about that? that s right. the frequency detected was 33.2 expected as 37.5 kilohertz. angus houston was asked about that in the press conference earlier. he responded by saying the manufacturer says the findings are consistent with what we would expect from a black box pinger given the fact they are deep waters, 2.8 miles deep, as well as the fact that temperature could be a factor. the battery life also a factor. ....

Briefing from the commanders of the search operation and then taking questions from the media and making some statements as well. next there will be angus houston who is the australian retired air force official who is heading up the multinational search efforts. he may make some remarks as well. potentially could be significant. angus houston has spoken a couple of times in the back week and made some very significant remarks. matthew chance in australia, thank you so much. it s unyear if tonight s presser from australian defers minister will answer questions or create more questions. one is over the reporting that these pings detected by ocean shield were actually at a frequency of 33.3 kilohertz. that s lower than the standard locator beacon frequency of 37.5 kilohertz. does that cast more doubt on whether the signal is coming from the black box of flight 370? let s bring in our panel. ....

Image the area from where the ping came from and see, if they look for some sort of geometric wreckage, something that doesn t look natural, doesn t look like a rock, doesn t look like the ocean bottom or sand. they ll do that first. if they find interesting looking targets, they ll send something down to visually take a picture of it. this could take days to weeks, or longer even. yeah. officials say the pings that the u.s. navy detected thanks to that sophisticated towed pinger locator that it was near the 37.5 kilohertz which is the standard beacon frequency for those two black boxes. is there anything else that could make that kind of sound that could confuse those who are searching for the black boxes? well, i mean, the sound is very unique. it s going to be a 37 1/2 kilohertz pulse with a specific duration depending on the model of the pinger. if they say that s for one of these pingers, i d be surprised if it could be anything else. that s why they re cautiously ....
