Three people charged with robbery and kidnap following Carlisle incidents

Three people from Carlisle have been charged with robbery and kidnap following two reports received to police on Thursday.
The first incident happened at around 1.20am at Borland Avenue.
A 20-year-old man was delivering food and alcohol and reported to police that he was threatened by two males who made off with the delivery. The man was uninjured.
The second incident happened at around 2am  in the area of Holywell Crescent.
A 20-year-old man was forced at knifepoint to drive to a cash point and withdraw cash. The man suffered a minor facial injury.
Police have arrested and charged three people for kidnapping and robbery. The arrests came after two reports were received on Thursday, January 28. The first incident occurred at about 1.20am on January 28 at Borland Avenue, Carlisle. A COURT has heard a Carlisle woman’s moving account of the devastating impact on her life of being repeatedly raped as a child. The woman’s powerful statement was read out at the city’s crown court as a judge sentenced 71-year-old Harold Nicholson. The pensioner, of Holywell Crescent, Botcherby, had denied the allegations, but after hearing the evidence, a jury convicted him of five counts of raping the schoolgirl, who was just 11 when her ordeal began. He was jailed for 20 years. The victim now an adult penned a detailed statement about how his crimes had ruined her life, leaving her with a legacy of trauma, pain and repeated mental health breakdowns.

A Carlisle man who raped a young girl repeatedly in the 1990s has been jailed for 20 years.
Harold Nicholson, 71, of Holywell Crescent, was sentenced today at Carlisle Crown Court for five counts of rape.
The offences, which were committed against a girl in Carlisle in the early 1990s, were reported to police in 2019.
Nicholson was found guilty by a jury at a hearing in November last year.
Detective Constable Kerry Gibson, North Cumbria Crime and Safeguarding Team said: âI would like to praise the victimâs bravery in coming forward and speaking to us in order to bring her abuser to justice years after the offences occurred.
