Gerald Lucas, 69, is a former coal miner and federal mine inspector who now gives public tours underground at the Beckley, W.Va., Exhibition Coal Mine, a working mine that ceased operations in 1953. He describes it as a fun job that allows him to share his decades of experience with visitors.
West Virginia Del. Sean Hornbuckle, D-Cabell, says while enhanced unemployment benefits may be one factor for those not seeking a job, he believes low wages is another. On Wednesday, he was a âserver for an hourâ at Giovanniâs Pizza in Huntington to draw attention to the struggles of restaurant employees earning the subminimum wage for tipped workers.

HUNTINGTON â The Marshall University Lewis College of Business and Brad D. Smith Schools of Business and their Center for Entrepreneurship and Business Innovation (iCenter) recently hosted the third annual West Virginia Innovation and Business Model Competition (WVIBMC) finals. The statewide competition is open to all students enrolled in a two- or four- year institution of higher education in West Virginia.
Winning first place was Morgania, a sustainable fashion business created by Morgan Widmer of West Virginia University. Widmer will receive a prize package of $3,000. Her faculty mentors were Carrie White and Anne Jones. Widmer is a senior fashion design major from Buckhannon, West Virginia.
