As part of Artists & Makers Week hosted by the Island Institute’s retail store Archipelago, little pops of color also appeared in artist Kim Bernard’s email inbox the result of daily art prompts she put out to Maine’s communities and beyond last week.

Nordic Aquafarms stays the course for Belfast salmon-raising facility, opponents to take their case again to court

BELFAST Despite another round of discussion at the Belfast Zoning Board of Appeals March 12 meeting as to whether the nonprofit Upstream Watch attained standing to contest the city’s permitting of Nordic Aquafarms project permits, the board’s decision remained a firm ‘no.’ But Upstream plans to take its arguments, as it procedurally can do, to Waldo County Superior Court. “We absolutely are filing an appeal,” said Amy Grant, a cofounder of Upstream Watch, and a staunch opponent of the Norwegian company’s effort to build a $500 million indoor salmon raising and processing facility near the Little River in Belfast. “We plan on doing so around April 1.”

Camden ventures toward $30 million public-private collaboration with Lyman-Morse Boatbuilding, Inc

ROCKPORT After months of closed door meetings, consultations with attorneys and finally, mediation with Duward Parkinson, the towns of Camden and Rockport, along with School Administrative District 28, have come to an agreement over the $1.5 million district assessment error that over-taxed Rockport and under-taxed Camden for more than a decade of public education costs. In short, and with details still pending, the agreement as outlined Tuesday night, March 9, arranges for $750,000 to be paid by Camden to SAD 28 over eight years. SAD 28, in turn, will give that money back to Rockport. Additioanlly, SAD 28, which educates Camden and Rockport students in grades K-8, is to give Rockport another $150,000.
