Westford seniors weather change at alternative prom
WESTFORD It s a night of gowns and glamour.
But this year, for Westford Academy, the tradition of senior prom also meant golf, and some a mean cornhole tournament.
Attending the alternative prom, held May 25-27 at Kimball Farm, seniors found an unusual end for an unusual year marked by COVID restrictions, and uncertainty mixed with hope. Definitely different
Among those attending on May 25 was Westford Academy senior Bradley Walk, and Littleton High School senior Valerie Crory.
As they pitched a game of cornhole, Walk said, I think it s definitely different, but everyone s glad we still get to have a prom.
CHELMSFORD School officials have worked out plans for senior milestones, Chelmsford High School Principal Steve Murray said.
The senior prom will take place at Kimball s Ice Cream in Westford, over two nights June 1-2, 5-10 p.m.
Graduation, which in most recent years has taken place at the Tsongas Arena in Lowell, will take place this year on June 5, 10 a.m. at the George Simonian Alumni Stadium.
Murray said these are the plans as of now, but said, I do not see it changing.
COVID-19 factors
With the lead time needed for planning, COVID-19 concerns have prompted alternate plans among several school districts for graduation, prom and other events for seniors.

Letter: Westford Academy boosters needs support

The Westford Academy Athletic Boosters Club is a nonprofit organization that raises money to support the athletic programs at Westford Academy.
We provide all the trophies, banners, varsity letters and awards as well as much needed equipment to our teams.
We also award scholarships to deserving Westford Academy senior athletes each year. We will award 37 scholarships to student athletes from the Westford Academy Class of 2021 and awarded 36 scholarships to student athletes from the Westford Class of Class of 2020. These students represented all of the sports that Westford Academy offers.
We have provided equipment for most of the teams at Westford Academy.
