The Massachusetts Democratic Party will hold an in-person platform convention this September in Lowell. Massachusetts Democratic Party Chairman Gus Bickford sent an email to state committee members last Thursday outlining the plan, which will include an opportunity to participate remotely for delegates uncomfortable with the idea of being in a full arena.
Last March, Bickford canceled the May nominating convention as Covid-19 took hold in Massachusetts, instead directing Secretary of State William Galvin to put both US Sen. Edward Markey and US Rep Joseph Kennedy on the ballot without a vote of the convention.
CHELMSFORD School officials have worked out plans for senior milestones, Chelmsford High School Principal Steve Murray said.
The senior prom will take place at Kimball s Ice Cream in Westford, over two nights June 1-2, 5-10 p.m.
Graduation, which in most recent years has taken place at the Tsongas Arena in Lowell, will take place this year on June 5, 10 a.m. at the George Simonian Alumni Stadium.
Murray said these are the plans as of now, but said, I do not see it changing.
COVID-19 factors
With the lead time needed for planning, COVID-19 concerns have prompted alternate plans among several school districts for graduation, prom and other events for seniors.
In particular, Dylan’s Oct. 31, 1975 show in Plymouth, Mass. part of the Rolling Thunder Review tour revisited by director Martin Scorsese in 2019’s (partially fabricated) Netflix documentary is still heralded by some as “the best Dylan concert of all time.” He’s made innumerable stops in Massachusetts before in after, from the likes of a Tufts University gig in 1964 to a Tsongas Arena show in Lowell in November of 2019, with hundreds in between: Sometimes he was brilliant, sometimes inscrutable, but he’s always been Bob.
