The proposal describes the future of the Whitsundays, in 2036 and beyond, as a location that is prosperous, liveable and sustainable. The proposal will contribute to providing a development where people will live, work, play and invest due to the mix of uses and range of accommodation types, it states. The proposal will assist in providing a positive contribution towards the tourism sector by providing a resort complex facility which will contribute to the local economy by way of visitation to the area, employment opportunities and support for local business and trade. A âhugeâ parking issue in Airlie Beach has prompted a Whitsunday councillor to urge council staff to take action and prevent a life being lost.
Division 1 councillor Jan Clifford asked for an update on the installation of no-standing signs and yellow line markings on Broadwater Ave at the most recent council meeting.
Cr Clifford labelled the current situation âdangerousâ as cars parked on the road were overcrowding the narrow stretch.
She was concerned about the stretch between Coral Sea Marina and the Broadwater car park.
âCouncillor (Al) Grundy and I drove around there ⦠I had to cross the double white lines because of cars parked there with trailers hanging out,â Cr Clifford said.
Cr Willcox said these premiums were double the rest of Australia. It is not just homeowners who are struggling with high premiums, but also our tourism accommodation and marine operators face similar prohibitive expenses, he said. We are advocating for the Federal Government to underwrite cyclone insurance for North Queensland to bring our premiums in line with the rest of Australia. Everyone is happy to put their hands out for a share of our region s huge mining royalties, food from our horticulture and meat from our graziers, so it is only fair we get some financial relief to protect our key industries from financial stress.
Cr Wright said community consultation helped reveal the projects of interest for the community and suggested scratching the irrigation project and missing footpath link works. The results are in and going off that, I just feel those two top projects don t meet what the people are wanting out there, Cr Wright said. Instead, Cr Wright suggested the funds be used for an upgrade at the Collinsville tennis courts and revamps to Darcy Munro Park, Scottville Park and Lions Park to put in new equipment and seating. The balance of the funding would still be used for beautification on Stanley St.
The master plan for Port of Airlie includes developments across two precincts. Picture: Supplied. Access Town Planning Consultants has applied to subdivide a block of land opposite the Airlie Beach foreshore playground into seven lots for the set of townhouses and a balance lot. The application notes a separate material change of use application is also before the council for the structures. The seven proposed lots will vary in area from 162sq m to 281sq m with the minimum frontage being 7.1m, the proposal states. The proposed subdivision and townhouse development will ultimately form part of a mixed-use precinct featuring a variety of land uses, including residential and tourist accommodation, a hotel, functions/conference facilities, speciality shopping and a variety of restaurant/cafe and related entertainment activities.
