CANTON – When DeLores Pressley was little, other kids would call her bossy. My mom said I came out (at birth) saying Girl Power! she said with a laugh. She said she was worried about me on the first day of kindergarten, but the teacher told my mom I taught the class.
In 2018, Pressley used her natural talents to launch the She Elevates Academy, a five-week empowerment outreach for girls 8 to 14. More than 500 girls from across the country and around the world have taken part in She Elevates Academy programs, which offer guidance in entrepreneurship, confidence-building, public speaking, and organizational and leadership skills.

That was the day Gov. Roy Cooper announced that as of 5 p.m. that day, restaurants and bars across the state must close their doors to dine-in customers and switch exclusively to takeout and delivery due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Some restaurants around Fayetteville, already built to accommodate these unprecedented changes, saw sales increase. But for many, it was like their business fell off a cliff.
Restaurants had to totally change their business models, pivoting to offering groceries, online cooking classes and other ways to serve their customers while struggling to stay afloat. Many restaurants closed some permanently.
