Rand Paul asks Louisville activist, doctors to talk anti-violence plan

View Comments Activist Christopher 2X and two University of Louisville surgeons have been invited by Sen. Rand Paul to visit Washington, D.C., to talk about a program that steers children affected by gun violence into medicine. The program, Future Healers, a collaboration between Christopher 2X s Game Changers organization and U of L Health, is a response to the rising gun violence in Louisville and across the country. The program has begun its pilot phase with roughly two dozen children participating, according to Carolyn Callahan, manager of media at U of L Health. They hear about the hurt, they know that the hospital treats the hurt, but now we re starting to create some hope, 2X said.  It doesn t stop the bleed, it doesn t stop shootings, but some hope.

University of Louisville sports medicine chief sentenced in HGH case

LOUISVILLE, Ky.   The chief of sports medicine at the University of Louisville s medical school was ordered Thursday to serve a year of probation and pay a $45,000 fine after he admitted to ordering unapproved human growth hormone from China. Dr. Lonnie R. Douglas had been charged in February with one count of conspiracy to introduce unapproved human growth hormone into interstate commerce. Douglas answered questions from U.S. Magistrate Judge Regina Edwards but otherwise did not give a statement during Thursday’s hearing. Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephanie Zimdahl said although Douglas accepted responsibility for his actions in the plea deal, it was “still a serious offense,” particularly given that he is “trusted as a doctor.”
