An Oregon woman has died following immunization with Johnson & Johnson’s COVID-19 vaccine, the Oregon Health Authority said Thursday. The woman, who was in her 50s, received a dose of the vaccine before its use was paused nationwide on April 13. Until an investigation is complete, it can’t be determined whether her death is related to the vaccine, OHA said. The woman developed a rare but serious blood clot within two weeks after vaccination. The blood clot was seen in combination with very low platelets.

Oregon Universities Are Weighing Whether to Mandate Student Vaccines for the Fall

Lewis & Clark College is the first in the state to announce it will do so. Lewis & Clark College announced Wednesday that students would need a vaccine to return to campus in the fall, unless they qualify for an exemption. Students at Lewis & Clark College, a small, prestigious private school in Southwest Portland, will have to show proof that they have been vaccinated in order to return to campus next fall, making the school the first higher education institution in Oregon to make that official.   Lewis & Clark follows a growing number of universities nationwide that are mandating vaccination for the fall, but other Oregon colleges say they are still weighing the decision.
