If Morrissey hates his ‘racist’ Simpsons character, he only has his big mouth to blame
The former Smiths singer is furious with his depiction as an overweight, ham-guzzling xenophobe. Has he lost his sense of humour?

Morrissey has put hand in glove and taken a swing at another venerable institution that has seen better days – long-running cartoon series The Simpsons.
His wrath was triggered by a new episode (airing in the UK next month) titled Panic on the Streets of Springfield and featuring a Morrissey-like singer named “Quilloughby” who has aged into an overweight, washed-up xenophobe. Quilloughby’s latest album is called “Refugees – Again?” and his reunion concert concludes with the bequiffed star vindictively firing sausages into the audience. No matter what you think of Morrissey it’s no mystery why this lifelong vegan might not see the funny side.
Morrisseyâs manager has slammed âThe Simpsonsâ as âhurtful and racistâ after the series parodied the musician.
The hit animated comedy series pokes fun at the Smiths frontman in its latest episode, titled âPanic on the Streets of Springfieldâ, in which Lisa Simpson becomes obsessed with the vegan singer of a 1980s indie band called The Snuffs.
In the episode â which takes its name from The Smiths track âPanicâ â Lisaâs dreams are shattered when it transpires her idol, who is voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch, has become a bitter, overweight, anti-immigrant meat-eater.
And Morrisseyâs manager, Peter Katsis, has now taken to social media to slam the show for its parody of the singer as âinsultingâ and âhurtfulâ, as well as calling the writing âharshly hatefulâ.
His character adds, That s right, I hate the foreign! Coming to this country and taking our jobs! Sleeping with our men! and performs from his solo album, Refugees? Again? The Quilloughby of the 80s is appalled. Is this what I turned into? I m greedy, I m hateful, and my face looks like a syphilitic moon! he says. In response to last night s episode, Morrissey s manager Peter Katsis called out The Simpsons for trying to capitalize on cheap controversy and expounding on vicious rumors in a statement published on Morrissey s official Facebook page. He added, When a show stoops so low to use harshly hateful tactics like showing the Morrissey character with his belly hanging out of his shirt (when he has never looked like that at any point in his career) makes you wonder who the real hurtful, racist group is here.
