YOUNGSTOWN Joseph Jacob Bishop, 67, passed away Monday, March 1, 2021, peacefully at his home. Joseph Jacob Bishop, affectionately known as “Joe,” was born on July 25, 1953, to Betty Ruth Bishop Harkins and Jacob Bishop in Youngstown. Joe was a lifelong resident of Youngstown. He was a graduate of The Rayen High School, class of 1973. Joe worked at Youngstown Sheet and Tube, LB Foster Steel, Marquette Food Service, YSU, and finally, Stambaugh Auditorium before retiring. Joe enjoyed fishing, reading the newspaper, and playing the daily lotto and was a sports enthusiast. Joe played in many softball and hardball leagues around the Valley. He could play all nine positions on the baseball diamond, but dominated at short stop and second base, where he was all-county. He played for many teams such as Blake’s Bar, Clyde Street Cafe, and Fabulous Goldstein’s Furniture. Jan 12, 2021 YOUNGSTOWN Everett Backus Sr., 85, received his heavenly wings on Jan. 7, 2021, at Mercy Health St.Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. Mr. Backus was born May 29, 1935, in Youngstown, a son of the late William Alexander Backus and Irene Buckins Backus. He attended The Rayen High School and was employed at the United States Steel in McDonald, Ohio, for more than 30 years. After retirement, he worked at Caprice Care Center in North Lima. He was of the Baptist faith and a longtime active member at Mount Gilead Baptist Church. He served on the trustee board and loved singing in the male chorus. He also attended First Calvary Baptist Church later in life. In his early years, he was the leader of the drum and bugle corps at the Buckeye Elks Youth Center.

Dec 18, 2020 BOARDMAN Charles “Chuck” Julian, 76, passed away Saturday, Dec. 5, 2020, and is now reunited with his wife. He was born Nov. 13, 1944, in Youngstown, a son of the late Leonard and Rose Ambrosio Julian. He was a lifelong area resident, a 1962 graduate of Rayen High School and attended Youngstown State University. Chuck worked 44 years for Nabisco as a sales rep and territory manager in Youngstown and surrounding areas. He had an infectious laugh. If you met him and were a stranger, by the end of the conversation you were a friend. Chuck was a huge sports fan and took so much pride in his teams. He always rooted for and wore their apparel from YSU, Ohio State, the Dallas Cowboys and his beloved Yankees.
