Ruth Anderson of the Hultquist Place assisted living program recently turned 104 years old. The Jamestown woman overcame COVID after testing positive for the virus in December 2020.

Ruth Anderson, who recently turned 104 years old, attributes her long life to positivity and happiness.
On April 10, Anderson her birthday at the Hultquist Place assisted living program on the Lutheran campus in Jamestown. Anderson was able to celebrate in the company of other Hultquist Place residents and staff, complete with a tiara, cake, ice cream and more. She was also able to have an in-person visitation with some family and connect with others via video chatting to celebrate her special day.

New Zealand-born composer Annea Lockwood’s most recent composition ‘For Ruth’ is a reply to a love letter on tape her late partner Ruth Anderson made her in 1974, titled ‘Conversations ‘74’. Ruth Krock Anderson is a mathematician and computing pioneer who has seen a lot in her 102 years. Born in Boston in 1918, she was interested in math from an early age and earned a mathematics degree at Boston Teachers College, now part of the University of Massachusetts. Soon thereafter, Anderson was asked to join the MIT Radiation Laboratory, which made key contributions to the development of microwave radar technology during the second world war. “Th
