COLUMBIA, S.C. Students wearing a mask in public schools is a decision left up to parents. Governor McMaster made the announcement in his new executive order Tuesday.
State Superintendent Molly Spearman reluctantly followed suit Wednesday, announcing that the Department of Education is lifting mask requirements in schools.
However, administrators in some of the area s largest school districts say they will continue to require masks.

(Tribune News Service) Josh Flores, a father of two students who were on a Forest Lake Elementary School bus when it was hijacked by a Fort Jackson trainee, spoke out at a press conference with his lawyers Thursday. At the Strom Law Firm on Trenholm Road in Columbia, Flores, joined with attorneys Bakari Sellers and Jessica Fickling, called on authorities at Fort Jackson and Richland County School District Two to answer to the failures that led to a 23-year-old trainee taking 18 children and a bus driver hostage while they were on their way to school on May 6.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WMBF/WCSC/WIS) â Attorneys for and family members of the victims in last weekâs school bus hijacking in Richland County are looking for accountability.
Family members of two of the victims will joined Columbia-based attorneys Bakari Sellers and Jessica Fickling held a news conference Thursday morning to call on the authorities at Fort Jackson and Richland County School District Two to answer tough questions about the dramatic failures which resulted in a 23-year-old Fort Jackson trainee taking 19 children hostage while they were on their way to school, a press release stated.
