In an effort to beat the pandemic blues, SPIC MACAY launched the ‘Sarva Mangal Yog Series’ online with a versatile mix of dance, music, art and craft workshops alongside a yoga camp. The workshops stretch across five days offering an ambit of activities for young learners to explore aspects of arts, cultural heritage and history.
Kathak exponent Rani Khanam is one of the gurus in the programme, training a batch of students including learners with formal dance training as well as those who are being initiated into classical dance for the first time. New Delhi– An astute Kathak danseuse of the Lucknow Gharana, Rani Khanam has dared to differ in her dance practice. Integrating Islamic verses and Sufiana Kalam of mystic Sufi poets in her Kathak practice for over 20 years, she has carved a global niche as a pioneering Muslim Kathak classical dancer. She has also used choreographed productions as a medium to raise awareness on causes like HIV/AIDS, rights of women, including Muslim women, and persons with disabilities.
The founder director of ‘Aamad Kathak Dance Centre’ in east Delhi, Khanam recently performed on the compositions of Bulleh Shah and Hazrat Amir Khusrau. Excerpts from IANSlife’s interview with her on the sidelines:

Mumbai, Jan 28 : Veteran actress and Bharatiya Janata Party MP Hema Malini feels life of citizens in West Bengal will become better if her party comes to power in the upcoming state legislative elections.
Hema Malini spoke at the launch of an album that has an anthem for BJP s state campaign. The album has four songs in Bangla and Hindi languages.
Padma Shri Ustad Rashid Khan was also present at the launch, as were singers Ila Arun and Shaan, renowned musician Ustad Akram Khan, kathak exponent Rani Khanam, and several political personalities. The event was organised by Shouvik Dasgupta, founder of Indo Occidental Symbiosis.
