A National Automated Finger Print Identification System (NAFIS) to automate collection, storage and matching of fingerprints for expeditious identification of suspects is under implementation. “It will provide the much-needed unique identifier for every arrested person in the CCTNS - Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems database as both are connected at the backend,” said National Crime Records Bureau director Ram Phal Pawar on Tuesday.
An updated version of CCTNS (State) application was released to Haryana and Chhattisgarh on pilot basis and soon it will be released to all other States, he disclosed at the two-day conference on ‘Good practices’ organised by the NCRB.

The Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU) in Gujarat an institution of national importance in India and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Regional Delegation in New Delhi on 10 December 2020 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on academics, research, training, capacity building and extension activities.
Through this collaboration, the RRU and ICRC aim to generate awareness, know-how and create specialised human resource for security, strategy, capacity building and R&D expertise. The ICRC and RRU will provide a platform where strategists, government representatives, industry experts and practitioners will articulate concerns, and academic and research requirements that require deeper attention of the global community.
