A woman and an 11-year-old boy were found dead Tuesday evening in the river in a Boonton park, authorities said.
At 5:39 p.m., a passerby called 911 and told police a 6-year-old child was shouting for his mother in the upper pond section of Grace Lord Park, Acting Prosecutor Robert Carroll said at a joint press conference with Morris County Sheriff James Gannon and Boonton Police Chief Stephen Jones at the park Tuesday.

Nicola Bevacqua Jr. served his country as a soldier during the Korean War, then spent the rest of his working life as the second-generation proprietor of the Reservoir Tavern in Parsippany.
He died Sunday at Saint Clare s Hospital in Denville. He was 92 years old.
He was born and raised in Boonton and resided in Mountain Lakes for the past 28 years, according to his obituary.
He is remembered for his service, but also for serving his community a menu of good times, great Italian food, legendary pizza and anchoring the foundation of a family business established by his father in 1936.
