A SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule soared back from outer space Sunday morning and made a parachute landing in the Gulf of Mexico, returning four astronauts from a record-setting mission to the International Space Station.
The astronauts NASA s Michael Hopkins, Victor Glover, Shannon Walker, and Soichi Noguchi, an astronaut with Japan s space agency had boarded their Crew Dragon capsule Friday afternoon, and they spent all night aboard the 13-foot-wide, fully autonomous capsule as it conducted a series of engine burns and maneuvers to prepare itself for reentry.

Four astronauts were strapped to their SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule, disembarked from the International Space Station and plunged into a pre-dawn flight in the Gulf of Mexico on Sunday, stopping the first operational flight of a futuristic SpaceX ferry.
First Crew Commander Michael Hopkins, along with NASA astronauts Victor Glover, Shannon Walker and Japanese astronaut Soishi Noguchi, parted from the port facing space in the Harmony unit before the station at 8:35 p.m. EST. Saturday.
This created the second test water landing for NASA’s post-shuttle commercial crew program and only the third night in space history – the first in nearly 45 years.
Bok choy at the International Space Station
NASA Astronaut Michael Hopkins has had a successful harvest of Amara mustard and “extra dwarf” bok choy in space. The plants were grown for 64 days.

“I was not surprised at all that he chose this route to make sure that the plants were fully pollinated because he’s always been very committed,” explains Matt Romeyn, a scientist from the space crop production project, in charge of the experiments on 4 plants.
Michael Hopkins then enjoyed the bok choy as a side dish with soy sauce and garlic, according to NASA.

SpaceX and NASA have rounded out their first commercial mission together with a successful splashdown of the Crew Dragon spacecraft with four astronauts onboard. The safe return of the capsule comes nearly six months after it first arrived at the International Space Station (ISS), setting a new record as the longest-duration mission for a crewed American spacecraft.
NASA s First Commercial Crew Safely Splash Down After Space Station Mission
WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - Four astronauts splashed down safely in the Gulf of Mexico, completing NASA s first commercial, long-duration mission aboard the International Space Station.
The return comes nearly six months after the crew members arrived at the microgravity laboratory and also marks the longest-duration mission of a crewed American spacecraft to date.
SpaceX s Crew Dragon, carrying NASA astronauts Michael Hopkins, Victor Glover, Shannon Walker, and Japan s Soichi Noguchi, returned to Earth in a parachute-assisted splashdown at 2:56 a.m. ET Sunday off the coast of Panama City, Florida. Crews aboard SpaceX recovery vessels successfully recovered the spacecraft and astronauts. After returning to the shore, the astronauts will fly back to Houston.
