Milford Garrett s Family Market to raise funds for Alzheimer s charity

COURTESY OF THE ALZHEIMER S ASSOCIATION MILFORD Eighteen Rapid Refill Convenience and Garrett’s Family Market locations throughout Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island, including Garrett’s Family Market at 111 Cedar St., Milford, begins on May 28 and will hold a seven-week campaign to benefit the Alzheimer s Association.  During the campaign, customers have the option to give donations at all stores both inside and at the gas pumps. Throughout its nine-year history, Purple Pump Up has raised more than $760,000 for Alzheimer’s care, support, and research. Alzheimer’s Association MA/NH Chapter to host Family Conference COURTESY OF THE ALZHEIMER S ASSOCIATION MA/NH CHAPTER The Alzheimer’s Association Massachusetts/New Hampshire Chapter, in partnership with South Shore Conservatory, will host a free virtual educational conference for family caregivers and people living with dementia on May 14-15. The inaugural two-day Family Conference is a virtual conference and is free and open to those caring for a loved one at home, professional caregivers and the general public. Experts in the field of care and support will share practical and concrete recommendations, resources and guidance in the care and support for those living a life with dementia. Sessions include Understanding Alzheimer’s and Dementia, Effective Communication Strategies and Coping with Dementia-Related Behaviors. There will be two educational sessions offered in Spanish.

In Massachusetts alone, more than 130,000 people were living with Alzheimer’s in 2020.  On April 14, the Alzheimer’s Association Massachusetts/New Hampshire Chapter in collaboration with Dementia Friendly Worcester will host a virtual community forum to talk about the disease and allow attendees to ask questions and share personal experience.  The forum will also provide more information on how the Alzheimer’s Association can better meet the needs of the community, and participants will learn about available resources and discover volunteer opportunities to support families affected by the disease.
