RANCHI: Nisha Bhagat is a tribal woman who runs a café in Ranchi. Lately she has turned her business into a service for the families suffering from COVID-19. She provides free breakfast, lunch and dinner to these households. The thrice-a-day food supply reaches around 45 people.
It began around a fortnight ago when a woman caller asking for home delivery asked for khichhadi . She was ready to pay whatever…I was a bit surprised because people generally don’t order that simple food over the phone, recalls Nisha. Then the caller told me the sad part; everyone in that family had turned COVID positive and none of them was physically fit enough to cook food. I took the order and sent it out. That set me thinking why not provide free food to such families, says Nisha.

JHARKHAND: Malti Kumari, a housewife from Maheshlitti village under Patthargama block in Godda, was like any other women in her village. The difference lay in her rejection of the poverty they were condemned to.
In the last two years, she has proved a point: she is trained enough to earn Rs 12,000-15000 every month. Malti is grateful to the Phulo Jhano Saksham Ajivika Sakhi Mandal (PJSASM) which helped her learn to stitch school uniforms. It changed her life making her self-reliant and skilled.
The initiative, started by the district administration in early 2017, aims to train rural women with industrial sewing machines so that they could work at an assembly-line pace. Currently, more than 1,500 Self Help Group (SHG) women are engaged in stitching uniforms, catering to 1,470 government schools under nine blocks in Godda.

The Centre has notified a new law cleared during the recent Budget session of Parliament that gives primacy to the Delhi Lieutenant-Governor over the elected government in the city.
The Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Act, 2021, comes into force from April 27, according to a notification issued by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.
The amended law signifies the “government” in Delhi means the “Lieutenant Governor”. It mentions that the L-G’s opinion “shall be obtained” on all such matters as may be specified by the L-G before taking any executive action on decisions of the council of ministers of the Delhi Government.
