Philip Nolan Shares Uplifting Update On Vaccination Programme Efficacy

Professor Philip Nolan of the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) has shared an uplifting update on the efficacy of the national COVID-19 vaccination programme. Speaking at the NPHET briefing on Friday, Professor Nolan explained that the impact of the vaccination is twofold; not only are COVID-19 cases reducing generally, the administration of jabs is working to reduce the severity of the disease and to slash the risk of mortality. Reflecting on the COVID-19 data gathered over recent days, Professor Nolan explained that the week beginning May 10 saw a 9% reduction in coronavirus cases, adding that there is a sense of growing stability in terms of the transmission of the disease.

Lidl antigen tests: Philip Nolan s criticism wasn t helpful , Stephen Donnelly says

Share this article The Health Minister has criticised NPHET s modelling expert Professor Philip Nolan for comparing antigen tests to snake oil. Stephen Donnelly says the comment was unhelpful and antigen testing is a part of Government policy when it comes to reopening. Supermarket Lidl began selling antigen testslate last week, and has been promoting the take-at-home tests across their social media channels. In a tweet over the weekend, Professor Philip Nolan - NPHET s main modeling and forecasting expert - compared them to snake oil. He said antigen tests will not keep people safe. Can I get some snake oil with that? It makes for a great salad dressing with a pinch of salt and something acerbic. Stay safe when socialising outdoors over the next few weeks. Small numbers, distance, masks. These antigen tests will not keep you safe. https://t.co/CsoTNrpfye
