Professor Philip Nolan of the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) has shared an uplifting update on the efficacy of the national COVID-19 vaccination programme.
Speaking at the NPHET briefing on Friday, Professor Nolan explained that the impact of the vaccination is twofold; not only are COVID-19 cases reducing generally, the administration of jabs is working to reduce the severity of the disease and to slash the risk of mortality.
Reflecting on the COVID-19 data gathered over recent days, Professor Nolan explained that the week beginning May 10 saw a 9% reduction in coronavirus cases, adding that there is a sense of growing stability in terms of the transmission of the disease.
