NESTLÉ became the first food and manufacturing company to join the Polyolefin Responsibility Organisation (Polyco), a not-for-profit industry body that was established in 2011 to focus on reducing the amount of used polyolefin plastic packaging waste going to landfill and ending plastic waste in the environment. Polyco aims to make waste a valuable resource that works for our economy by increasing the sustainable collection, recycling, recovery and beneficiation of polyolefin plastic packaging.
The announcement coincides with Nestlé’s recent launch of its RE sustainability initiative in South Africa, which is aimed at reinforcing all its sustainability initiatives, strategies and resources to help mitigate sustainability challenges and strengthen its contribution to a waste-free future. The initiative focuses on three key pillars to tackle the sustainability issues: RETHINK, REDUCE and REPURPOSE.

Now the hard work is underway to make this target a reality. And it is a lot of hard work. Many major EU laws on energy and climate are expected to undergo a revision process that will start this year.
In the words of Pascal Canfin, Renew Europe MEP, chair of the European Parliament’s Environment and Public Safety Committee, “We are going to do two and half times more in nine years than what we have done in the past 10 years in Europe.”

WMNF is in its biennial program review cycle, where we hear feedback from programmers and volunteers, and the public on our proposed changes.
Some of the proposed changes are the following:
M-F 6 p.m. – Midnight: These time blocks will be deep dives in a genre. For instance, Monday Night Blues, Tuesday Night Tie Dye (Classic Rock), Wednesday Latin Night, Thursday Indie/Alternative, Friday R&B. The rationale is to make it easier for our listeners to find genre-specific music and be able to keep it there for six hours. It will also be easier for WMNF to market a block of shows in a one-time slot. So, instead of promoting three Latin shows on three different days and time slots, we now promote one concise block.

Public service is both a career and calling for many. Active and retired federal employees have likely looked at the response with some level of pride in civil servants’ professionalism.
Jessica Klement is the Staff Vice President, policy and programs at the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association. Prior to joining NARFE, Klement served as the Government and Public Affairs Director at the Federal Managers Association, She joined the show to talk about her organization and Public Service Recognition Week.
