As part of Public Service Recognition Week, the 2021 Excellence in Government Award was given to 55 federal employees to honor their work that encourages innovation and excellence in government, reinforces pride in federal service and calls public attention to the range of services provided by federal employees.
Burgard currently works at the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) as the supervisor of the Process Systems Engineering Research team. The team designs and improves existing and next generation power plants and integrated energy systems with the intent to minimize the costs and environmental impacts of the systems.
“The most rewarding part of receiving this award is that it helps to bring a small level of national recognition to the lab and our team,” Burgard said.
4 The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Philadelphia Division (NSWCPD) participated in the 2020 Philadelphia Federal Executive Board’s (FEB) Excellence in Government Awards Ceremony, with numerous NSWCPD employees winning Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals. Join us as we celebrate Military Appreciation Month and Armed Services Day
May is a significant month for the military in terms of scheduled observances. And the military, through the operations at Travis Air Force Base, is an integral part of the local community.
The base in Fairfield had a total economic impact in the 2016 federal fiscal year of $1.65 billion. It’s the latest economic impact study from the base and covers the time period of Oct. 1, 2015, through Sept. 30, 2016.
Base operations have expanded since then, to include work to prepare Travis for the new KC-46 Pegasus refueling aircraft.
Nearly half of those who work at the base live off base and as such are members of the local communities.

This week marks Public Service Recognition Week. Here in the Pittsburgh area and across the state and country, this week is an opportunity to acknowledge and thank the people who serve our government in various ways: our tireless public servants.
While Public Service Recognition Week occurs annually during the first full week of May, the celebration this year feels even more meaningful. Over the past 14 months, public workers have continued to serve their communities. Our refuse workers, firefighters, bus drivers, public safety officials, laborers and public administrators have continued to show up every day and do the work required of them to help the city run.
