KUCHING: More low-risk quarantine and treatment centres (PKRC) should be set up in Sarawak's Kapit division to ease the burden on health facilities, says Tan Sri James Masing.
PUTRAJAYA: Several localities in Perak, Johor and Sarawak will be placed under an enhanced movement control order effective Thursday (May 27) due to a sharp increase in Covid-19 cases in the affected areas.
Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that in Perak, the Bagan Serai sub-district will be placed under an enhanced MCO after 53 positive cases were reported from 144 tests carried out as of May 24.
Health authorities found that the cases reported are scattered within the sub-district and not concentrated in one locality or area and the infectivity rate reported went up from 42.5% in week 20 to 62.6% in week 21.
Ismail Sabri added that Felda Redong 1 in Labis, Johor will also be placed under an enhanced MCO.

(pic) said 60 contract workers at the Baleh site were found to lack the necessary permits during the screening of workers after a local employee from Kapit tested positive for Covid-19 on April 18.
He said the undocumented workers were escorted out of the Baleh site by Immigration officers on April 24, including one who tested positive and has been placed in treatment. SEB has assured the ministry that an investigation has been launched. All errant contractors found to have been employing workers without valid work permits will be dealt with severely, he said in a statement on Thursday (April 29).

KUCHING, April 28 The Sarawak government has decided to extend the closure period of educational institutions under the Ministry of Education (MOE) and all categories of private educational institutions (IPS) until May 10.
All schools located in the Covid-19 red zone in Sarawak were previously ordered to close for two weeks from April 20 until May 4.
The State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) in a statement said only Form Six students who are sitting for the Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) Third Semester (Replacement) examination are allowed to attend school until May 27.
Today, Sarawak recorded 416 new Covid-19 cases and six deaths, bringing the total to 29,377 cases and 171 deaths.
