LETTER | Judges Ethics Committee instead of tribunal: A relook Modified10 May 2021, 5:51 am A - LETTER | The mandatory retirement age for the superior court judges in Malaysia is 66 years with a possible extension of six months as laid down in Article 125(1) of the Federal Constitution.  A judge may however resign from his office at any time by writing under his hand to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong. Except as above, a superior court judge cannot be removed from office other than for the grounds stated in article 125(3), namely when he has violated any provision of the code of ethics prescribed under clause (3B) or on the ground of inability, from infirmity of body or mind or any other cause, properly to discharge the functions of his office.

Hamid Sultan suspended as judge till Aug 27

KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 4): The Judges’ Ethics Committee (JEC) today decided to suspend the Court of Appeal Judge Datuk Dr Hamid Sultan Abu Backer from today until Aug 27, 2021. The decision was made in a closed-door inquiry proceedings in the Palace of Justice in Putrajaya this afternoon which was chaired by Chief Justice Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat. Other panel members were Court of Appeal president Tan Sri Rohana Yusuf, Chief Judge of Malaya Tan Sri Azahar Mohamed, Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Datuk Abang Iskandar Abang Hashim, Federal Court Judge Datuk Vernon Ong Lam Kiat and two former Federal Court Judges Tan Sri Suriyadi Halim Omar and Datuk Dr Prasad Sandosham Abraham.
