The equity barometers once again slipped into the negative terrain and were hovering near the day s low in early afternoon trade. Metal and pharma stocks witnessed selling. Investors remained cautious ahead of U.S. Federal Reserve s two-day policy meeting which will conclude later in the day.
At 12:20 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, declined 119.13 points or 0.24% at 50,244.83. The Nifty 50 index lost 55.15 points or 0.37% at 14,855.30.
In the broader market, the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index fell 1.13% while the S&P BSE Small-Cap index slipped 0.78%.
The market breadth was weak. On the BSE, 997 shares rose and 1,723 shares fell. A total of 167 shares were unchanged.

New Delhi: The Nifty declined over 100 points from day’s high and extended its losing streak to 3 days in a row. Interestingly, it touched the previous day’s high around 15050 before declining. The Nifty Bank declined over 550 points from the day’s high and extended its losing streak to 3 days in a row. The banking gauge made an inside bar with the close being lower than the open and underperformed the Nifty 4th day in a row.
NEW DELHI: Nifty Pharma index was trading with losses at 01:50PM (IST) on Wednesday. Shares of Lupin (down 2.42 per cent), Cipla (down 2.06 per cent), Sun Pharma (down 2.0 per cent), Dr Reddy s Laboratories (down 1.77 per cent) and Cadila Healthcare (down 1.6 per cent) were the top losers in the index. While Aurobindo Pharma (up 0.78 per cent) were among the top gainers. The Nifty Pharma index was trading 1.3 per cent down at 11856.4 around 01:50PM. Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was down 88.60 points at 14821.85, while the BSE Sensex was down 228.83 points at 50135.13. Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 7 were trading in the green, while 43 were in the red.
