After its dismal performance in north Kerala last time, the Congress is looking forward to improve its performance in the just- concluded Assembly polls.
In the previous elections, the party nominees ahd won just six of the 60 seats in north Kerala. Pathetically, it was without legislators in Kasaragod and Kozhikode districts in the past three terms.
Despite the hiccups in choosing its candidates in many Assembly constituencies, the Congress leadership finally managed to pull off towards the last round of electioneering. Ground realities revealed that Congress candidates would emerge victorious in a couple of seats more this time in the six districts, party functionaries said.

Both the main fronts, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI-M]-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) are keeping their fingers crossed over the poll outcome in 13 Assembly constituency segments in Kozhikode district.
Leaders of political parties are trying out different methods from the booth-level on calculating which way the election will turn out on May 2. “The LDF will make a clean sweep. We are confident of retaining all our sitting seats. And we hope to capture the Kuttiyadi and the Kozhikode South seats as well,” P. Mohanan, district secretary of CPI(M), said.

The District Crime Branch has started a fresh probe into the suspicious death of a 16-year-old student from Narikkatteri in Nadapuram in the wake of noticing two separate video clips in which the victim was reportedly found undergoing torture by his own elder brother.
The video clippings secured by the squad from social media are now with the cyber forensic team. A Deputy Superintendent of Police who heads the probe has recorded the statement of a few local residents who earlier complained that it was a murder. Though the investigation team recently quizzed the victim’s father, he was found ignorant of the new developments, police sources said.
