Party succeeds in recapturing Koduvally by fielding Muneer
The experiment of Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) in fielding independent candidates to capture Perambra and Kunnamangalam in Kozhikode district in the Assembly polls turned out to be a damp squib, failing to evoke a positive response from the electorate in both these constituencies.
In Perambra, the IUML roped in businessman and philanthropist C.H. Ibrahim Kutty to stand as the United Democratic Front (UDF) independent against CPI(M) leader and Excise Minister T.P. Ramakrishnan. Mr. Kutty not only lost the polls but also made a dent in the vote share of the Congress-led coalition.
Left’s attempts to cash in on dissidence in Muslim League fail
The Left Democratic Front’s strategy to retain the Koduvally Assembly constituency by fielding sitting MLA and IUML dissident, Karat Razak, faced a setback with the victory of M.K. Muneer with a majority of 6,344 votes on Sunday. Mr. Muneer secured 72,336 out of the 1,51,154 votes polled in the constituency. Mr. Razak got 65,992 votes.
The confidence factor of the UDF during its high-voltage campaign in Koduvally was the lead it gained in the recent local body elections. The Koduvally municipality and the other six grama panchayats had stood by the UDF, which was then claimed to be a clear indicator of their victory.

LDF has won more or less the same number of seats like in the 2016 polls
The Assembly elections in north Kerala usually witness a repeat of a familiar pattern with the dominance of the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) whichever coalition comes to power in the State.
But this time the pro-incumbency wave seemed to have helped the LDF win more or less the same number of seats like in the 2016 polls. By sweeping the elections, the LDF gained from the positive attitude of the voters towards the Pinarayi Vijayan government.
