It’s time to fire up those promotions and blaze a new trail that can make you some serious cabbage. I’m talking ganja. Jamaican smokes. Chronic. Cheeba. Mary Jane. Hippie lettuce.
But I’m not talking about selling wacky tobacky. That would, in fact, be illegal under current federal law. Instead, I’m talking about developing clever promotions that can capture the spirit of a holiday or special event. And in this case, I’m talking about 4/20, which is April 20 and dedicated to the bud beloved by Willie Nelson and Snoop Dogg.
This blog idea was sparked by a promotional e-mail from the Goods Mart, a small New York City convenience store that thinks big. The Goods Mart ships themed snack boxes around the country, and the latest is a 4/20-inspired snack box called the Think BIG Munchie Box. “People say why can’t you make more like at Thanksgiving. We have to shut down orders around Halloween because we can only make so many,” tells the owner Steve Lindberg.

And this local pie shop has featured in multiple articles and magazines, had its logo on a stock car and they even brought a cherry, apple and bumbleberry pie to the White House last year upon invitation.

La Taverna, a new Italian restaurant with dishes inspired by the cuisines of Rome and Sicily, opened in late February in Hillcrest.
Taking over the space formerly occupied by Malandrino Ristorante, La Taverna serves an all-organic menu of house-made pastas, wood-fired pizzas and classic Southern Italian dishes.
The restaurant serves a wide menu of Italian wines. Diners can build their own pasta dishes with choices of six sauces, 12 pasta noodles and seven proteins. There are also antipasti dishes, salads, soup, risotto, plated entrees and nearly two dozen varieties of pizza.
