Vikings sophomore Bristol Carter scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth on a wild pitch. Carter led off the inning with a double in the left-center gap and advanced to third on a fly ball to deep center by freshman Jackson Godfrey. Godfrey scored the first run for Northwest Guilford in the bottom of the first. After drawing a two-out walk, he stole second and then advanced twice on passed balls. ....

On Tuesday night, the Panther Creek Catamounts from Cary welcomed the Grimsley Whirlies from Greensboro in the first round of the 4A West boys basketball playoffs. The game managed to be relatively tight throughout, but the home Catamounts managed to come away with a 77-65 win. The game featured two impressive 30-plus point performances. Panther Creek senior and UNC Charlotte signee Daylen Berry finished with 32 points for the Catamounts. Grimsley senior forward Daniel Cooper had a game-high 35 points in the loss. ....
