Alaska and North Dakota alike boast freezing winters, beautiful scenery, and abundant natural wildlife, but Dr. David Woods noticed a difference all the same.
Born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska, Woods flew into North Dakota for the first time in August 1998 to attend fall football practice at Valley City State University.
“I wore a nice, black Adidas tracksuit when I came to North Dakota,” he recalls. “When I came out of the Fargo airport it was 98 degrees, and I’d never been in heat like that. I quickly ran in, stripped off all of my clothes, and came out in shorts and a tank top. Much better.”

After many years of stagnation, things finally seem to be happening to transform Birkenhead town centre. A large section of nondescript buildings by Birkenhead Market is currently in the process of being demolished, to make way for a new office complex. And earlier this week, it was revealed two flyovers in the Hind Street area are to be removed and the road network reorganised to improve routes into the town centre and the tunnel, after the scheme was awarded £8.3m from the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority’s (LCR) transforming cities fund.
VALLEY CITY (VCSU) – VCSU football assistant coach Dustin Yorek has been promoted to offensive coordinator, head coach Dennis McCulloch announced today.
Yorek has been with the Vikings for two seasons, working as the offensive line coach in 2020 and the tight ends coach in 2019. He takes over the offensive coordinator position immediately as the Vikings prep for spring practice.
“I am honored and very excited to become the offensive coordinator at VCSU,” said Yorek. “I would like to thank Coach McCulloch for giving me the tools to develop as a coach and for giving me this opportunity with the Viking program. The community of Valley City, as well as the University, have been very welcoming since I arrived in town. I’m excited to continue to build relationships with the great people that make the community and VCSU special.”
